"We do not construct the world from our experiences; we are aware of the world in our experiences. Science is a language for talking not about experience but about the world." You should be able to differentiate the description of birds at your feeder from your explanation of your observations. Many experts feel that several bird species are in decline. Is this supported by the data collected in Kansas over the past several years? Other species are spreading their range. Are there any birds showing up now that did not show up at feeders at the beginning of the survey? The status of any wildlife population may be evaluated in three general ways: 1) a complete count or direct enumeration on an annual basis, 2) an index to abundance at some time period during the life cycle, or 3) a life-equation (available from the literature) which provides an indirect evaluation of the populations conditions. It is always useful to compare results obtained from several approaches before drawing conclusions. What can you say about our research focus questions?
